Mediation and arbitration both tend to be a less intimidating processes than litigation for the parties and for their attorneys. The less formal nature of these alternative methods of dispute resolution also allows the parties to arrive at creative solutions to their problems that might not be available to them in a formal court proceeding.
I believe the parties benefit when their mediator or arbitrator is a person who participates in the community, cultivates outside interests, and explores the world.
To give you a sense of who I am and what interests me, my resume includes details about my family and my interests. I am an active participant in Stanford Law School's Three Strikes Project. I also commissioned this study, which compiles and summarizes civil jury verdicts from Tulare County from 2004 through 2008. I have also travelled extensively, and I am interested in a wide range of subjects beyond the practice of law.
